Artist statement
With my work I want to portray my own personal feelings within a monochrome setting. Within my work I do this by using graphite charcoal and black and white acrylic paint to break away from my own perceptions of creating perfect things.
The emotions I wish to convey are emotions I strongly felt while growing up such as anxiety, loneliness, and isolation. I often reflect that within my pieces by embracing the lone figure or on a more abstract level try to convey how my mind expresses such emotions leading to unique, interesting shapes and patterns within my work.
I also enjoy screen printing as it is a quick way of expressing how I feel in the form of different imagery and colours. the quick turnaround time allows me to produce quick results that I can play around with in a multitude of ways
Within my work I also tend to do quick graphite sketches with loose, uncalculated lines to get me to stop overthinking what I draw and break away from the habit of being too precious with what I create in a way that is effective and efficient. I find this methodology theraputic as it allows me to break away from how I constantly try to perfect things I may not be able to control
I don’t usually add any colour to my paintings or drawings as I don’t want to break away or distract from the emotions I’m trying to relate to within my work however I enjoy using strong, vibrant colour within screen printing. If you would like to work with me i would be happy to accommodate your needs and introduce colour into ant drawings or paintings as well as making any monochrome screen prints.
